Learn Braille, cell by cell

A visual study tool for sighted teachers, parents and volunteers learning to read Unified English Braille by eye. It does not teach reading by touch.

What it does

Chart. The six-dot cells in braille order, with what each one means. Learn. A path from a to j through to contractions, opening one step at a time. Practice. Cell to text and text to cell. A wrong answer comes back at the end of the round. Translate. Type English and see uncontracted braille, worked out on your device.

Where the data comes from. Cells and signs were generated by a script, not written by AI. Each sign was included only when the liblouis tables and The Rules of Unified English Braille, Third Edition 2024, agreed. Read the details.

Which braille this is

Unified English Braille only. The older English Braille American Edition differs in contractions and punctuation, so charts from it will not always match.
